How often should you check in?

A dead man's switch should fit around your life, not interrupt it. Answer five questions and get a recommended rhythm, reminder schedule, verifiers and grace period.

Question 1 of 5

How often do you travel somewhere with patchy signal?

The four plans, explained

Each plan is a starting point built from the settings Sealkept uses. The quiz adjusts reminders and verifiers to your answers.

  • The Steady plan

For most people: settled routines, reachable most days, no big changes ahead.

Light, low-effort and safe. A monthly check-in you'll barely notice, with enough reminders that a busy month never triggers anything.

  • The New Parent plan

For parents of young children, or anyone with people depending on them day to day.

Young children make timing matter. Frequent, effortless check-ins and a short path to someone you trust confirming.

  • The Traveller plan

For people who travel often, work remotely or spend weeks out of signal.

Long stretches off-grid need patience. Fewer check-ins, more reminders and a longer grace period so nothing opens by mistake.

  • The Close Watch plan

For people facing surgery, treatment or a serious diagnosis.

When things can change quickly, a weekly check-in and a short grace period keep your messages close at hand.

How the check-in works

Whichever plan you choose, nothing is ever released on a single missed check-in.

  1. Check in on your rhythm

You get a short email with a check-in link, or tap once in the app. It takes seconds.

  2. Reminders if you miss one

If a check-in is missed, Sealkept sends reminders spaced out over days, not minutes.

  3. Trusted verifiers

If you've named verifiers, they're asked to confirm before anything else happens.

  4. A gentle alert and grace period

Recipients may get a soft alert, then a grace period runs during which you can still stop everything.

  5. Delivery by your rules

Only after all of that are your messages released, exactly as you set them up.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Monthly suits most people. Choose weekly if timing matters a lot (young children, serious illness) and every three months if you travel or are often hard to reach. Pair a longer interval with more reminders and a longer grace period.

Nothing is released straight away. Sealkept sends reminders first, then asks any verifiers you named to confirm, then sends a soft alert and runs a grace period. You can check in and stop the process at any point.

It is the final waiting time after all reminders and confirmations, before messages are delivered. A longer grace period makes accidental release less likely; a shorter one gets your messages to people sooner.

No, but it adds a human safeguard. A verifier is someone who can confirm you're fine, or not, before anything is released. Two verifiers who must both confirm is the most cautious option.

Yes. You can change the interval, reminders, verifiers and grace period at any time, and pause check-ins while you're away.
